It’s Better In Italian (2015)
It's Better In Italian is a featurette documentary that explores the rich history of Italian film dubbing through the lives of three doppiatori—the voice actors who lend their Italian voices to international stars in English-language films. As the industry faces dramatic shifts, these performers reflect on their craft, legacy, and the future of their art.
The film was my MFA thesis project at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts and was executive produced by Laurie and Paul Feig. It enjoyed a successful festival run, premiering at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival and winning top honors at the 2015 Palm Springs International ShortFest, and continues to reach new audiences via Amazon Prime. It has also been incorporated into Italian language and culture curricula at the University of Pittsburgh and Gettysburg College.
Featuring Roberto Pedicini, Davide Perino, and Ugo De Cesare—with a special appearance by Elijah Wood—this is a heartfelt, often humorous portrait of a group of remarkably talented yet frequently overlooked artists.
